Hi all

I got out early this evening and took a trip to the south of Orion and dipped into Lepus to take away the following doubles.

STF 710 A white pair, equal 8.5 mags., wide at 11", seen at X59, better at X93
HJ 3705 7.5 & 9.5 mag. white stars are separated by a very generous 22", an easy split
HDO 78 Another white pair, mags. 7.5 & 8.5, with a separation of 12" this could be split at X59
HJ 3791 Yes, you guessed it, a white pair, mags. 8 & 9, separated by 11", not difficult
Gamma Leporis Very, very wide, 95", white, what else?, mags. 3.5 & 6, this was split using X29 and worth a visit
HJ 3798 No, not white, a pale yellow and white, wide at 15", 8.5 & 9 mags.
HJ 3788 Yellow and white again, similar mags. to HJ 3798, wider at 25", an easy split at X59
COO 31 7.5 & 9.5 mag. white stars with a generous separation of 18", they lie side by side in the eyepiece
HJ 3799 Tight and white, separation of a mere 3.5", mags. 8 & 8.5, which helped achieve the split
LAL 43 Equal mag. 8.5 stars, the primary looks yellow-white, close at 3.5", seen best at X93
HJ 3821 Separated by a wide 18", this pair of white companions, 8 & 9.5 mags. was not too easy.

The seeing began to deteriorate at the evening moved along and it became too difficult to continue. With my current observations, it's not likely that I will suffer a stiff neck from looking up, more likely a bad back from leaning over. There is such a small window of opportunity to observe some of these constellations, due to their southern aspect, so I take the chance when it comes along.

Thanks for your time.

Paul

Brilliant list, Paul, thank you. I must check up on them tomorrow.

Cool title too. It reminds me, I must go hunting for R Leporis again -maybe on Friday night at Sandymount.

Anyway, I was out under the stars tonight as well. I shall give the details tomorrow afternoon. I have a 2 gems for you.

Aubrey.

Thanks Aubrey, as for the title, this was not one of mine, I borrowed it. Those of you who study the classics will, no doubt, know instantly where the title comes from, though it should be Genie, not Jeannie, the classic 1960 production, From Hare To Heir, starring Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam, where Bugs sings I Dream of Genie She's A Light Brown Hare, on the piano.
