Dave,
If it's any consolation, I've to deal with this sorta stuff every second week! After a while, you'll become immune to it!

Getting back on topic, I presume you'd want a tube dob rather than a truss, is that right?
Have you considered Orion optics? They have a very good reputation.

Sterling/Euro conversion may be a downer though. At least you wouldn't have to pay import taxes though.

Here's a new 12" dob that telescope House are just bringing to the market:

As it's brand new, it may take a while to get it right, so to speak. On the other hand, it seems relatively good value for money.

Guy's thanks for the info.
I had seen reviews on the Orion Optics OD300L 12" f5.3 Dob. IMHO it's not as good optically or structurally as the Starhopper of the Intelliscope.
The Revelation Dob (12") from Telescope house is very good value for money (£499) and reviews are reasonably good.
All this talk about Celestron has made me a bit nervous. The Starhopper is not a big runner for Celestron and the chinese guy won't want to make something that doesn't sell well. Accessories or spare parts could be a problem.
North Down Telescopes have been very helpful with advice on dobs.
Furthermore they can match the UK prices.
With insurance on the shipping direct from UK it is very expensive. Also the credit card payment with Telescopehouse is messy if you wanted to collect with your own courier like I offered.

Seanie M, I could barely find my way around Tullamore let alone the heavens. Spending too much time trying to find DSO's in front of a student or guest observer would be embarrassing. So ATM I'm leaning towards the Intelliscope.
