Hi everyone.Just wondering does anyone know what that little fuzz between the top of sagitarius and scutum is.I was out observing last night and chanced across it.Cant seem to find it in my hand book.I was using a pair of 10x50 Optisan, Leo 3 Binoculars.I think it might be M16 but not sure..any ideas.

There are a lot of fuzzy things around that part of the sky! M16 is certainly a candidate. I've put up a finderchart of the area at www.irishastronomy.org/user_resources/fi...15744036-sagscut.pdf that shows down to magnitude 6.
M16 and M23 are an open clusters, so probably wont show up all tha fuzzy. Depends on your meaning of fuzzy though!
M17 is a nebula nearby that would definatly be fuzzy, from a dark sky.
Hope that helps, let me know if youd like a more detailed starchart.
Cheers,

. Keith Geary took a spectacular image of that part of the sky, and John Flannery joined the dots with what is to be seen there. Judging from your post, and looking at the photo in the post linked, it sounds like it could have been M24.
Best of luck Declan!
