ordering U.S. equipment was created by briano
Hello there!
I was going to order some digital setting circles from lumicon.com in the U.S. but I am just a little worried that I will have to pay duty tax when it gets here, has anyone else have to pay this?
I got a book from the U.S. before and I didn`t have to pay this. The cost of the digital setting circles is $350.
Also anyone know if they are good? Sky Vector 1 they are called.

Brian,
There are some reviews of digital setting circles here:
www.cloudynights.com/category.php?category_id=89&pr=1
As for taxes, you will get caught. Expect to pay roughly 25% of the product+shipping ocst and add about another 10euros. I reckon it'll be about 90euros roughly. And you'll need to pay COD (Cash On Delivery) to the delivery guy.
Clear skies,

Thanks Micheal
Do you mean I will have to pay the tax charges to the delivery guy or the whole cost?

You pay the shop the normal price plus the cost of shipping. When the package arrives on your door, you pay the delivery guy the taxes.

briano,
I've found that you can get lucky sometimes. About half the time I order stuff from the US. It just arrives with no-one asking for taxes. The other half I've had to cough up. I tend to find the lower the items value the less likely you are to be nabbed. Saying that, once I had a 500dollar item come through without any charges. Another time I had to shell for a 200 dollar item. You just never know. I always consider that when it all works out you end up paying the dollar price in euros (roughly)

Dave,
Rumour has it that someone received a $9,000 AP160 refractor from the US without paying a single euro in import duties and taxes!
Now, how it slipped through is beyond me! Of course, who am I to ask or complain.
Anthony.
