Keith,
I have a Skywatcher 127mm Mak. Its a wonderful scope. I understand that although they are sold under various brand names, i.e Celestron, skywatcher, orion etc, they are all the same scope. I would recommend a mak wholeheartedly. Maks provide a lovely flat field with far less coma, (flaring of stars near the edges) as newts. However as Jed G mentioned at F/15 this becomes a high mag scope with a narrower field.
So in short, go for it, but just remember it is still a 5" scope, dont be expecting to see the faintest objects!!

Keith,
I have a 6" mak and it easily out performs any newtonian of equal aperture.
A good mak is bettered only by a good refractor (in image quality).
