FREE mag 8.5 star atlas online was created by johnflannery
hi all,

Happy Christmas and clear skies for 2006!

I mentioned this before, but I think is worth highlighting again. Point your browser to Toshimi Taki's web site www.asahi-net.or.jp/~zs3t-tk/atlas_85/atlas_85.htm and download a FREE magnitude 8.5 star atlas! The project was only just recently completed.

it's a stunning piece of work - with publication quality graphics - that covers the whole sky in 144 charts. Many deep sky objects are plotted too. There is also a document giving data on all the DSOs. The complete download is about 16.5Mb (in sections).

Toshimi also created a magnitude 6.5 atlas that you can download free.

atb,

John

I saw that, and the charts are pretty good. You may need the help of an accompanying star atlas e.g. Phillips Star Atlas 2000 to identify stars by name or rank not shown in the asahi-net atlas shown here. Still, for free charts, they are the bees knees.
