Eclipse shades? was created by cloudsail
I wonder if anyone knows a supplier of eclipse shades in or near Dublin city center? Or if I have to mail order, has anyone had experience with thousandoaks,
www.eclipseglasses.co.uk
? For the 1998 antigua eclipse, we ordered polymer shades from rainbowsymphony. They have a nice orange colour and less reflective glare than the aluminiumised mylar, but their minimum order is 25. Somehow we lost/gave away all but one of the ones we got in 1998 so unless someone has a better suggestion, I'll probably order another 25 from rainbow!
If I can't get any in time, does anyone know where to buy small quantities of #14 welder's glass locally?

Any good industrial factors or hardware store will have the welders glass.

I've about 30 eclipse shades from Rainbow Symphony that I will be selling for €2 each (ordered 50 off them last month). They give a nice orange tint to the Sun when viewed through them.
the South Dublin Astronomical Society will have a special pre-total solar eclipse meeting in Gonzaga College in Ranelagh in early March. Final touches being put to the night at the moment (probably the second Thursday in March). Anyone travelling to the path of totality (or even just curious about eclipses) are welcome to attend. More details will follow.
send me your actual email address on a Private Message and I can add you to our mailing list about the eclipse night.

With the Solar eclipse coming up on March 29th (I know it's only less than 20% obscuration) this is very relevant.
A cheap way to make your own solar filter - follow the link below:

If anyone knows of an Irish source for the Baader Astrosolar Safety Film can they let me know.
David Hinds are the UK suppliers but it's difficult to buy from them, they don't accept "foreign" credit cards, and their website only allows purchase from the UK or NI - *$%^!english!
