Yikes! I really hope that's not the problem. But if I do need to get it fixed I guess it will give me the excuse I need for that alt-az head purchase I was considering
Just waiting some clear skies to check it out.

Is it possible that when changing the optical tube for something significantly different that you might need to alter settings on the mount like the backlash settings? Just a thought.

Since you put a new tube on it, did you rebalance the mount, an unbalance can cause motor strain, and as the tube is heavier maybe the latitude adjuster has slipped ??

Well, it finally cleared up last night so I took it out for a while and tried some of the stuff that Marty suggested.
Yes, the scope is balanced on RA and Dec. Again I tried Capella as the first star and Again it pointed about 10 degrees below it. Centering this star and then Pollux for the 2nd got me to within 2 degrees of the 3rd (Arcturus).
I then tried a polar alignment in the menu. Now I know that the mount was perfectly aligned as I used my polarscope I set it up,just to make things easier. Anyway, the polar align ended up pointing the scope to about 10 degrees ABOVE Polaris!!! I then did the compulsory three star alignment again and all that the polar alignment did was put me out about another 10 degrees (I guess it was beacuse I had to readjust the mount downwards).
So it really looks like the mount thinks everything is about 10 degrees lower in the horizon until I finish an alignment.
Of course I got even worse tracking after the polar align because I guess it was not tracking on the correct plane at this stage. Even 10 seconds gives long star trails.
ANyway, will call Celestron today and see what they can suggest. This is one weird problem.
Thanks for all your replies guys!

Its starting to sound like an electronic problem as opposed to a mistake your making on the setup. Let us know how you get on with celestron support.
