Digital Camera was created by Neill
Hi all,
I am looking to buy a decent camera for taking astro-pics. The 350D seems to be very good, given the pictures on forums I have seen. Would anyone recommend one and if so where is the best place to get one , i.e. best price.?
Thanks
Neill

The 350D is replacing the 300D, which was the favoured choice for astrophotographers. I believe the 350D has the 2 optional extras you would have had to 'hack' out of the 300D to make it more astrophoto-friendly - mirror lock-up and reduction of the IR filter.
There are lots of online sites to have a look for the 350D, and prices change on an almost weekly basis. All I can say is, when you are ready to buy then surf away and go for the best deal you can find that day!

I would definitely recommend one from a photographic point of view, haven't been able to do much astrophotography with it.
You can buy the excellent Canon 350D with 18-55mm lens from Komplett for €780, see www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=320067
The only place cheaper is some of eBay shops, you can purchase a 350D from around €700.
I have bought some equipment from Digital-Rev on Ebay and have not had any issues with them.

I have a 300D, what I've seen of the 350D is pretty good.
If I didnt have a 300D already I would get a 350D (300D is discontinued), they are both excellent cameras, excellent for astro and terrestrial photography.

Neill - if its only astrophotography you're interested in, get a Meade DSI as a starter imager (a few hundred dollars).
If you want to take daytime snapshjots too, then the folks here will guide you as to the best DSLR to purchase (looks like the 350D is getting a thumbs up).
Cheers
Dave

Neill, I heard nothing but great reviews of the 350D - a proven winner, just have a look at all the astroshots produced by it!
