Remember the corrector plate disaster last year,
www.irishastronomy.org/boards/viewtopic....19&highlight=ups
atleast that was glass, this time the've really outdone themselves.
To all lx200 tripod owners out there who thought that this tripod was practically indistructable, have a look at this.

This guy had his tripod and scope shipped with UPS, they managed to sheer the tripod leg off the tripod base, I would have thought this part of the tripod as practically industructable, yet they managed to destroy it.
The only thing that saved the scope was the fact it was in a JMI case.
Another OOPsy from UPS.

UPS really seem to be out-doing themselves in terms of incompetance of late. I recently had half a parcel go missing with them and there have been some VERIOUS horror stories in here in work of late.

Last year I had a serious row with UPS.
Basically I ordered some gear from losmandy. I got a call on a Monday from a girl at UPS saying my package would arrive on wednesday and as there was duty owed could I have the cheque ready for the delivery man. I took a day off work on wednesday and duly waited cheque in hand. On wednesday morning the tracker status changed from 'Awaiting delivery' to 'Out on delivery'. I was happy.
About 3:30pm there was still no sign of the delivery man so i went back to the tracker which had now changed to 'Delivery deferred at customers request'. Clearly I had made no such request. So I got on to UPS. Customer service were worse than useless. A call center in scandinavia somewhere with absolutely zero interest in the customer.
So I rang the main switchboard and asked for the name of the person in charge of deliveries for north dublin. I managed to get his name, phone number and email address. I got him on the phone and basically demanded to know why the UPS tracker is lying. To give him his due he was very concerned and helpful. He said he would investigate and get back to me and he did. It turns out that the delivery man decided to skive off early and because he needed to input a reason for non -delivery of each parcel he made up the customer requested deferred delivery' thing.
Anyway he was most apologetic and got the delivery man to come out in his own time and in his own car to deliver the package.
So good and bad. Bad that it all happened as it did but good that the management cared enough to do something about it.

UPS delivered my AP1200 without a hitch...
I wonder if packing was the issue with the Meade mount? Though that still doesn't excuse UPS from handling it and what seems to be an unreasonable way.
Bart, I bet that delivery guy loved you
Seanie - are the Royal Mail that bad? An Post seem to be ok though did did lose a parcel of mine in recent years.

The guy bought it second hand, so who knows what the packaging was like. All the same, it must have taken alot of force to sheer off a big chunk of metal like that.
