Power supply for ETX. was created by Frank Ryan
Hi all,
Does anyone know will a regular 12V power adapter do fine for the ETX-125?
Having read the manual it just says Power Supply 12VDC.

When you say 'power adapter' what do you mean?
I'd say any standard 12VDC battery will do as long as it delivers enough current. Does the ETX manual stated how many amps its draws?
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
By 'power adapter' I mean the thing that plugs into the wall that can power the scope.
There is a 12V port on the side of the ETX for an external power source.
The manual suggests:
'the #541 AC Adapter - which plugs into any standard 115vAC home outlet'
But as far as I'm aware the standard voltage here in Ireland is 225vAC.
So my question is really, will it make any difference to the scope,
drive motors or autostar handheld if I use a 225vAC power adapter as long as there is 12V going into into it?
I am currently (no pun intended) powering with the highest powered rechargable batterys I could find
but still, the power runs out all too quickly
(especially with a new scope where ultimatly almost infinate fiddling around with will usually occcur)
And seeing that there is a socket right inside the patio door a couple
of feet from where I set up it only makes sense to save the batterys for field work....

I wouldn't worry about power when it comes to this scope, I got a 12V DC power supply for it a while back.
If it can rtun on batteries, then its not using alot of power.

Frank,
Be sure to check the polarity. i.e. whether the + is on the inside or outside of the plug. There will be a little diagram on the scope or in the manual. Then make sure that the power supply is the same or that it can be switched to be the same.
I might be stating the obvious but a mistake here could cause damage.
