I was scrolling through the telescope-service website, drooling over the 152mm refractors, as you do, going through their information they mention residual false colour and recommend a Baader Contrast Booster for both their f8 and f6.5 models.
My question is this, are they being brutally honest, or is this a sales pitch to get you to purchase the filter?
I am considering a purchase of one of these scopes, as soon as I scrape the money together

Since the scopes are achromats, there will be false colour introduced into the image/view. The filter they recommend will reduce that and boost contrast. And baader make good filters...
I think they are giving good advice and not trying to make a few extra quid.
Are you thinking of the scope/mount option or do you already have a mount?
Cheers

The scope itself weights in at 9.5 kgs, therefore I would opt for the EQ6 mount for greater stability. The head alone weights in a 18kgs and there's even the option of mounting a larger scope in the future if possible.

Any idea what the standard periodic error with the EQ6 is?
If you're getting into astrophotography, this will be your key metric.
One option you have is choice of focal length. The shorter the focal length, the less that tracking matters.
Take your time in deciding the OTA, mount (particularly the mount) and CCD combo - you should try you best to match the mount and focal length and the CCD pixel size with your typical seeing. Let us know how you get on or if you need more assistance.
Cheers

The only photography I plan to do is lunar and perhaps solar system, not deep-sky. Does that make a difference?
All my previous experiences have been observing with dobs and giant binos.
You are talking to an equatorial and photographic virgin.

Dave,
without wanting to stray off lunartic's original thread, can you explain the 'physics' behind this? I always assumed a better image would be seen with a longer focal length mirror/lens, as there is less grinding, therefore less error.
