Even more cunninger....if that's actually a word! :)

Seriously, the idea came about wrt to the possibility of adapting the PST to a larger scope i.e. 4" f/10 refractor, to create a 4" h-alpha scope with a 0.7A bandpass. However, after researching the idea a bit more, I'm a bit reluctant to be honest. Not totally given up on the idea though.

The real unknown is the accuracy the focal length, is the scope exactlyF10, what kind of tolerance is needed there??
For instance, my F10 SCT is not actually F10 and you see other reports on the web where the focal length of a given scope is slightly out, which wouldn't matter for routine asto observing.

The variation in a SCT would be of much greater concern to me than a refractor. I would expect an f/10 refractor to be somewhere in the region of f/9.5 to f/10.5. However, with an SCT, it's a different ballgame. Apparently, you also get greater light dispersion with an SCT.
