Kendrick Dew Controller Digifire 10 was created by michaeloconnell
Hi,

I recently purchased a Kendrick Digifire 10 Dew Controller. For more info on this product: www.kendrickastro.com/astro/dewremover.html#DigiFire10
I looked into buying it in Europe. From Altair Astro in the UK, it would cost Stg£139.95 = 208.78 euro.
From Telescope Service in Germany, it would cost 298 euro.
From both, I would have to wait for them to get it from Kendrick first before they sent it on to me. Those prices do not include shipping.
I decided instead to buy it direct from Kendrick in Canada. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and it was sent late last week. The cost for the controller and insured shipping was 188.12 euro. Unfortunately however, it got caught at customs. Yesterday, I got a docket from An Post saying I had a parcel at the Post Office for which I would need to pay 42.90euro.
So, total price was 231.02 euro. Note however that this includes insured shipping and got to me quicker than going through a dealer. Thought I would share my experiences with you on this issue. From the above, I guess I lost out a little but did get it quicker. However, on several other transactions from the US/Canada I have saved alot of money. I guess you win some and lose some.
It always pays to shop around, both in the US and Europe.

As for how well it works, I've a bit of wiring-up to do to connect it to my power supply. Will report back once I have it all hooked up and tested it out.

Hi Michael,

I bought one of these a year or so ago. So far am very happy with it, the ability to set seperate duty cycle for each output (excluding two fixed outputs) is great.

I too got it direct from Kendrick. The site has very good prices on lots of stuff.

Later,

Jed.

PS Let me know how you get on with the temp controlled ports. I had a look at it and could not figure out where the temp sensor was supposed to go! (no sugestions please ;)

Does the temp sensor not plug into the bottom right corner? The other end of the sensor lead then goes under the dew band?

That's the case with the Premier controller too...

I've had the same experiences Michael.

Awaiting a Megrez 90 Package from the US to replace the Ranger and even with VAT it works out about 400 quid cheaper to get it shipped from the US. Madness!

The Kendrick stuff seems to be particularly overpriced in Europe though. Cheapest Observer tents are £400 without shipping, whereas they are $369 in the US. Half the price!

Good luck with the new kit Michael.

It's interesting (and sad) that you got caught for duty. Up to now Anpost were not collecting duties:( I think that's something to do with GLS getting the heave-ho and anpost taking over parcels directly.

Dave.
