Hex Key for Focus Knob ETX70 was created by jabertolin
Hi to all,
Just landed into Irishastronomy forum. Recently I bought an extension for the focus knob of the ETX70AT. I thought that the Hex Key that was provided with the extension (1.5mm) could be appropriate for removing the original knob but my frustration arrived when the knob focus of the ETX70 had another size. I tried 1.5mm and was too big and 1.3mm and was too small but I'm not able to find the 1.4mm in any shop in Spain or in Great Britain. Do you know where to find the appropriate hex key to remove the focus knob?
I got the ETX in Lidl supermarket in Spain but I'm afraid that they can not provide support to that level.
Thanks in beforehand for your help
Juan

Welcome !
You might want to use an imperial measures hex key. As meade is in US, they dont like metric. Any hardware shop would have them.

Juan - with the ETX being US made, its possible the hex nut is imperial. That said, the possible sizes in inches are 1/16 and 0.05 inch (these equate to 1.59mm and 1.27mm. I had a search, and sure enough I don't see any 1.4mm hex keys. Odd...
For metric and imperial hex sets, try www.tooled-up.com/ I used them recently and they're good. They ship abroad too.
Hope this helps

Hi all and many thanks to both Daves.
I already ordered to tooled-up a set of hex key imperial size but I'm still confuse because, I tried 1.5mm and 1.3mm metric size keys, 1.3mm was too small and 1.5mm too big, however the imperial size 1/16 and 0.05 inch (1.59mm and 1.27mm respect) are even bigger and smaller respectively than 1.5mm and 1.3mm ... so ... what to do?
Does it mean that MEADE is using its own special hex key size? Anyone that has got a ETX70AT -and with the original key- could measure the real value of it?
Anyway, many thanks for your help. I need to remove the focus knob, when it is cold at night is very difficult to deal with such small knob to focus.
Thanks
Juan
