Purchasing from abroad - be prepared was created by dmcdona
Folks - I had some astro stuff delivered today from the US. It was An Post who delivered it and requested duty/vat payment. - of course I was prepapred for it but I wasn't prepared for the fact they do NOT take credit cards. Cheques or cash is pretty much it. Luckily enough, I managed to find the cheque book.
Chatting to the postie, I asked him what would happen if you couldn't pay - they would take the parcel away and return it to the sender.
Just thought I'd pass on the info.

At least you could chat to him Dave, guys from ups and fedex are much more aggressive, and demand cash payment immediately. Did'nt know about the credit cards though

Hi Keith - I got a UPS delivery last year and the delivery man was actually very nice! He had this great handheld credit card reader so we had the deal done in a jiffy.
Certainly An Post do not accept credit cards.
Cheers

Would you believe that no post office takes a credit card, so if I want to send you a box, be it 10 or 100e worth, it has to be cash, an post have a blanket ban on credit cards, how backward is that!
