Scope storage was created by michael_murphy
Hi all,
I recently acquired a Nexstar scope (before the recent run of bad weather so it's not my fault ).
I would like to store it in a shed in the back garden and was wondering if there was anything I should consider regarding the electronics/optics in the scope and damp/cold etc.
I've considered theft of scope from the shed and am just interested in the storage conditions.
Thanks,
Michael.

Michael - as long as you avoid extensive water ingress, damp patches, mould etc, just put the OTA cover on and haul a Tarpaulin over it. Use a bungee cord to secure the tarp.
I got a massive tarp in B&Q for less than a tenner.

Hi Michael,
I have a scope permanently out at the dome and damp is a consideration.
One thing to remember is that these scopes are designed for extreme in temperatures, the one thing to avoid is trapping damp, especially on the optics.
If there is dew kept on the optics for a long period of time, you will get mildew on the optics, what I do is never cover up the front of the scope when its dewed over, leave it exposed until the morning when its evaporated, then cover it up.
I also have dessicate packs stuck onto the inside of the dew shield cover so moisture in the air in front of the corrector is less likely to form mould.
Electrics and water don't mix, so just be careful and sensible about this, if the place is completely saturated, don't turn anything on.
