Ask a blind person this question:
"What is your concept of the Cosmos?"
Peter White, who presents the blind persons' programme on BBC Radio 4, has been blind since birth.
He said "I have no concept of the horizon or the moon or the stars..these things are utterly outside my senses."
Peter.

Hmm - perhaps I missed your initial point - without eyes we can't, err, see. So they are "the technology" that allows us to see and become bewitched by the romance of astronomy?
Is that it?
Is that it?

Marcy seems to be dealing in double standards if you ask me.

The romance is gone out of Astronomy ??
To professional astronomers, its a job, most of them have/had no interest in amateur/visual astronomy, so what romance is there in the first place???
Its a job, they get payed and if they're lucky they'll discover something new and interesting.
Amateur astronomy is what you make of it. some like to lie in a deck chair and watch meteors go by, others like to set up robotic observatories.
