While surfing the Net looking for... well never mind what I was looking for :wink: , I found this website and though it might be of interest:

Telescope Comparison shows side by side comparison of two telescopes with eyepieces. The simulated view and several readouts automatically calculate and refresh as you change the settings. Use the menus below to select different telescopes, eyepieces and objects to view to see different simulations.

John,
It a useful website alright.
It's based however on relatively simple maths (related the focal length of the telescope to the focal length of the eyepiece to the apparent field of view of the eyepiece).
A spreadsheet containing a numerical version of the same thing is here:

Note however, what they won't show you is the real experience of looking through a scope. A bigger scope will give a brighter image with much more detail.
