Drat! Pipped to the post - I've been working on something very similar (on and off) for a while, including the split alt-bearings and six-tube truss joined top and bottom. Still, he has come up with a few nice ideas there and put them together into a great looking scope!

but what a way to go.
+ 12"LX200, MK67, Meade2045, 4"refractor

Yea, I've been following this one on the obsession user group for a while now, a nice scope, has many advantages to the brute force traditional dobs in terms of weight, one draw back is no mirror protection.

Coz ..umm.. last time I checked, Sand + Mirror = scratchy scratchy cry cry.

Having said that, this scope does look like you would get it into a bag on a plane, so this could be a scope you could bring on holidays.

What struck me as a little odd was the aperture. I would have thought that an ultra-light dob would open the doors to even greater aperture.
