Those of you that have Baader Hyperions, what are their advantages over e.g. the more common Meade Suplerplossls and Celestron Plossls?

Hi Seanie
From my limited experience with both Hyperions and Meade SPs I would say noticeably wider field of view and slightly better edge correction. I still use the SPs for planets though.
The Hyperions have good eye relief too. Great value at only around €100 each. They work just as well in a 1.25" diagonal. The only minor catch is that they are not parfocal like the SPs.

Thanks John, clears things up a bit for me! So, for my modest Skywatcher 80ED, they're not really a requied asset in my EP case then? I would only see the real benefits on the 8" reflector and larger?

You should see a noticeable improvement in field of view even with the 80mm (can anyone else comment?). Nice for open clusters etc... Best would be to try it out first. I'l be bringing some Hyperions up to Galway next weekend for the astrofest (weather permitting). You are welcome to try them out if you are there.

Thanks for the offer John, but as yet, my attendance is doubtful. If you wanted to go one step further, I could suggest a loan? ;) Unless there might be someone coming to the next TAS meeting in February that would be able to bring one of their own?

You might want to try option B first. They are fairly heavy eyepieces. The cost of P&P back and forth would probably pay for a new one
