Recoating a telescope mirror was created by dave_lillis
Hi All,
I was wondering has anyone out there had their scope mirrors re-coated recently, who are the companies that do it and what is the cost??.
The club is considering getting its 12" and 2.5 inch mirror re-coated, they are in a bad state.

thanks,

Dave,

When I got the mirror for my Dob, the previous owner sent it to Oldham Optical to be recoated. www.oldham-optical.co.uk/ . I got the mirror set from him for around £150 so I really doubt it cost much.

You could also try Galvoptics - www.galvoptics.fsnet.co.uk/telescope7.htm .

They would do a 12 inch mirror for about £30

I've used galvoptics before and they're very good. Yes recoating is very cheap. Just make sure you package it up well before posting (and dont forgwet to insure the package).

Used Oldham Optical myself a number of years back, and they did an excellent job for my mirrors.
