Just thought I'd put on the record some minor problems I'm having with this kit. I am very happy with the overall build quality and the performance of the optics. However it is difficult to use the finderscope when observing overhead. It is very low down and while you I can get by with the diagonal on the main scope there is no such option for the finderscope.

The second issue is that the setting circles are of limited use. The markings very course, 10 mins in RA and 2 deg in Decl. They really only offer a rough guide to location.

Having said all of that @ EUR330 it still represents good value for money.

I've had the same problem with straight-through finders, they just aren't comfortable to use. I normally replace them with a red dot finder as soon as I get a scope but one of these days I will buy a nice right angle finder. Those are much easier to use and I don't understand why they are not the standard.

One thing I did years ago on my auld refractor was take the finder off the scope and put it up by the objective lens, it made things abit easier for the zenith.
Right angle finder can be an absolute curse to use.

That looks like drilling holes in my new telescope  . I still wake up at night shrieking after seeing what Grennan did to his poor 350D. webtreatz.com/content/view/26/40/ and I don't even own that kit  .

Apart from all of that, it looks like a cunning plan. Now has anybody seen my hammer?

If you need to relocate your finder through a design flaw of the scope, you can also use resin. It will hold the pieces together, and probably be better than drilling holes, which would be something I would also be reluctant to do. The reason being that if you don't have them sealed properly, then moisture/dew could seep into the inner tube, and God knows where that will end up. Epoxy resin is yer only man. It won't matter if it is not alligned parallel with the tube either, as you still need to adjust the finderscope to what you see in the eyepiece anyway.

That's a good idea Seanie. I might give it a go.

Thanks.
