Thanks Dread. Kinda explains it in a 1-2-3 way. Looking at the prices it doesnt look expensive at all to adapt considering the results you can get.

Would i be right in assuming that the scope you have at the opposite end of the set-up makes ALL the difference?

The one in your diagram looks to me to be one of those Williams deep sky types.

I REALLY like the look of those and considering how well they perform (that i have researched) are very reasonably priced.

Forget imaging. I really want to get into deep sky observation (Nebulae,Galaxies). The Willianms range seems to be just the thing for this.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Is this the toucam webcam you all use?

Paul,

If deep sky visual work is what you wan't forget about small refractors like the williams optics. I know Gary's image of the rosette nebula impressed you but you will NEVER see anything like that in ANY scope.

The best scope for visual use is a large dobsonian reflector. The largest you can afford and manage. An 8 or 10" reflector will give you lovely views of loads and loads of deep sky treasures that any small refractor will never be able to give. With one of these you get the biggest aperture/price ratio of any design,

NEVER be sold a telescope based on astrophoto's all that shows you is the scope is good for astrophotography.

For visual use aperture is king. The bigger the better

Paul,

I have no imaging setup yet. I came across this information while researching what I need to buy for webcamming as it appears to be the cheapest entry point to astro-imaging, if only just planets. I haven't even got my scope tracking yet :( . Hopefully this will be sorted over the next month or so. Perhaps someone might confirm the exact bits and bobs required for me also. I can't why you need anything else beyond webcam, adapter and IR filter.

With regard to the telescope, I would just plan to get it working with what I have. I sure bigger aperture and faster optics would improve matters but I think baby steps are in order i.e. get it working and take it from there.

Down with vwls.

I know this also.

Basically the scope for me is one that is gonna show deep sky objects even slightly bigger and slightly better then my refractor. Forget the colour..........i KNOW that aint gonna happen.

So a DOB is the way to go you reckon?

The problem for me with a DOB is that the EP is at the top end of scope. Not suitable for a person in a wheelchair.

Imaging is not my aim right now.................im purely about observing deep sky............and not so deep (which my refracter allows).

But yes deep sky observation is what i really want to aim for.
