Wedge for lx90 - users opinions wanted was created by bertthebudgie
Hi

I am interested in hearing from anyone who is using a lx90 8' with a wedge. I can see that there is the standard meade wedge and then you can go for more expensive ones. Is it worth going for the more expensive wedge one and if so which one is the best value.

I understand that you can get a field derotator. Drawbacks are that it is expensivwe and it dosent work with the lx90 only lx200 and is heavy will make the scope unbalanced. and adds an extra level of complexity to the wholc thing.

Any ideas.....

I'm assuming you don't observe with a wedge at the moment? Are you planning to purchase one?

The only reason I'm asking is that I have a Meade EQ wedge that was on my old LX10, now I'm not sure if fits in with the LX90 system, but you are more than welcome to take it home to try on your scope to see if it's compatable, after that you can make a decision.

Let me know.

Hi Dave,
I've seen the standard wedge in action and would not recommend it, its difficult to make small adjustments and that are very flimsy, I'd go for the superwedge, its for the 10" and 12", its alot sturdier and does the job and would work well with the 8" although I cant remember if you need to drill some holes for the 8" to go on that wedge (holes in the wedge that is).

On thing about these wedges is that GOTO accuracy is seriously curtailed if your polar alignment is anyway off, interms of portability they seriously add to your setup time and are really alot more at home in a permanent setup.
I've never seen anyone use them in the field, although I'm sure some do.

Hi

No I dont observe with a wedge at the moment and whether I get one depends on how much they costs. The way I see it, you can get a more expensive sturdy one but it will be much heavier and less portable.

Setup will be that bit more difficult as I will need to think about leveling and polar alligning. I remember looking into the lx10 wedge but I understand that it is not compatable withthe lx90 but I will check.

I have been doing some research on the lx90 yahoo group and it seems that they are saying that the standard wedge is adequate for photography but with just some post purchase modification. Lots moe research required I know.
