Sigh.

LOOOOOONGER Uncle Al, not shorter. That baby 8 Ethos would give me 500x, which I can use, oh, I don't know... maybe 2 nights a year?

As fab as these eyepieces are, they are quiet specialised, for instance I use the 9, 7 and 5 mm 82 degree type6 and they are super on globular clusters, planets and planetary nebulea but I dont necessarily need these wide angle field for the planets and nebulae, they do however stand in a league of their own for globular clusters as you need that high power and the wide FOV to get the full cluster in, even at that, M13 and similar globulars are bigger then the FOV the 5mm gives me.

So as super the 8mm is, its not necessary to see small brighter objects. they should go for the lower power eyepiece range IMHO.

Anthony --

When did you get on the AP Mak-Cass list? Any chance of getting the new beasty soon?

(I got on in 2006, so I won't be counting my chickens any time soon.)

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

I am seriously optimistic that I will be getting the call for such a unit!

I suspect that 2006 is rather a very late arrival but I have read somewhere that the length of the list for the Mak-Cass is not at all as lengthy as for the various other products.

Anyway, it looks like a very serious scope and I am eager to have it at home for use under the night sky.

Scarry what gems AP puts out!

Excellent, Anthony!

(I might have to learn to image so we can have a Big Mak shoot-out. ;) )
