DIY metal parts for telescope working - where ?? was created by Prorok78
Hi Guys,
I trying to change motors in my CG5 mount. I found great stepper motors (1.8 deg/step), and i have a driver for this. So all electrical work is done.
One problem i have is to put the motors to the mount securely.
I have a project of the good brackets and i can make them my self, but i can't find the good material. I'm looking for the aluminium angle about 3" x 3" thickness about 1/4 " (mayne a bit less) and about 5 inch long... I serched everywhere (i think) and i can't find any shop with aluminium parts or offcuts. Does enyone from you have an idea where i can find something like this in Dublin? I found the company www.metalfast.co.uk ... They say they sell just offcuts in good prices but when asked whey want over 60 pounds for such angle and over 40 pounds for delivery...
Thanks for any advice!!!

I can't help you with off-cuts (good luck searching!) but you can probably get 3"x3" aluminium angle from both Reynolds Systems, Alcoa, or Baco Metals, all in Dublin (Ballymount / Fonthill areas.) They import stock aluminium extrusions in lots of shapes and sizes. Angles, box-section, U-channel and bar are all sold in 5m lengths.
You probably don't want 5m and are unlikely to find suitable off-cuts. Another arrangement would be to use 1" angle rivited to a pair of flat aluminium plates to give you an effective 3x3 angle. I have a few metres of 1" angle and a rivit gun if that helps.
Phil.

HI. Thanks for help and the offer. But i think i have to find the solid one piece. if i build this from a few parts, it would not bo stiff enough to prevent motors from making movements...

I have an angle like that, I can cut a 5 inch section and still have enough to finish my project.I have to work during this weekend in Dublin north side if you want to meet me sometime during the weekend.
