Lads,
I'm looking for weatherproof binoculars with a pedestal, they type you'd see at the seaside where you put in a coin to work.
Its not for me but for someone else I know who wants one, I'm trying to persuade him that this is not the way to go but he is adament about it.

However, they are normally designed for terrestrial use and not for pointing high in the sky.
Also, I doubt you would get good quality glass suitable for astronomical observing.

They would be better off with something like this.

Just take a hack-saw or a very large pipe cutter down to your local sea front prominade and make like Cool Hand Luke! :D

That was gonna be my suggestion also.

A nice ceteline torch should do it in no time.
