Bobs Knobs was created by Keith g
Hi all, I have my 8" SCT for 6 years now, and have noticed over the last year that the views through it a quite poor indeed, what with all the transporting around with it.
I should have posted this long before now, but those of you with SCT's will see that collimation is a big problem (optics between primary & secondary mirrors are aligned to give sharper views).
This can be easily fixed with a set of Bobs Knobs which are thumbscrews which can be turned via your fingers whilst looking through the eyepiece at the same time during collimation. Through lazyness, I should have done this long ago
I ordered mine today for 11 euro excluding postage, I think anyone using an SCT/Newtonian scope often should have a set.
There's an explaination here:

They also help keep your scope protected from scratching accidents.
On SCT's where the tube is not that long, you generally look through the eyepiece while simultaneously adjusting the screws at corrector plate end. I have often thought it would be very easy for the screw driver to slip out of the screw head and run across the corrector plate, completely destroying it.
with bobs knobs you dont need a screwdriver, hence you scope is safer!

Hi,
these bobs knobs are the business, they make collimation so much easier.

Absolutely.
They're a must for anyone who has to collimate regularly.
They look expensive for what they are, but they save so much time and effort, so they're well worth it.
I'd an email exchange with Bob himself for a while..nice guy too, and his service is very fast.
