Home Weather Station was created by Frank Ryan
Although not exactly 'observing' equipment, I thought it best to place it in this section.

I am looking out for a home weather station and I wonder has anyone
here any advice?
I'd like it to be wireless and also to be able to check it online.

Here's one that seems fairly popular - there are a number of installations around the country - and you can get live data on-line from your own station:

Examples:
www.brayweather.com/Current_Vantage_Pro.htm
arklow.741.com/live.html

arklow.741.com/live.html - a different setup, but also live, and with useful links.

PS - forgot to mention a weather page I knocked up for the hang gliding association - all live weather links - which I also find useful for astro activities!

Incidentally, although specifically designed for glider pilots, the RASP/BLIPMAP data can also be very useful.

Hi Philip,

You may already have found the information you are looking for but a good place to ask about weather stations is at the weather forum on boards.ie. Loads of guys there have stations.

This'll be cool! I can log onto your weather station for Bray specific observing weather info

I have an all-sky camera that I'm fiddling with for bolide/meteor detection. I reckon that with a little software (hint, hint, someone! :) ) that it could also be used as a cloud detector! It shouldn't be very difficult to stream the video to the internet also. I'm working with the developers of HandiAVI to overcome the problem of fast moving clouds triggering the automatic recording - I wake up each morning to gigabytes of cloud movies! :( Apparently they dont have clouds in Arizona where the software was developed!!

The Bray Meteorological Survey (a weather station at my gaff) is definitely in the plans for the observatory!

These units are also good for keeping an eye on the ambient temperature and which impacts the critical focus point when imaging (unless of course you have an automated focuser).
