A very neat design, looks like a regular shed when closed and looks like it has a smaller footprint then a standard roll on/off observatory.

Putting my engineering cap on:
One change he could have made was to make the pivot point closer to the roof but keep the arms the same length. The long arms could then act as counterweight (perhaps even with added lead weights) and balance the weight of the roof. The way he currently has it, he has to take the entire weight of the roof in his hands as he rotates it up and down.
