Binocular sky window was created by johnflannery
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever built a binocular sky window?
What I'm talking about can be seen at www.astro-engineering.com/Binocular%20Mo...rmountin.html#mirror and www.tricomachine.com/skywindow/ (there's a review at www.backyard-astro.com/equipment/skywindow.html ). I see ScopesnSkies in the UK sell a system called Binoflex but it seems to be out of stock at the moment.
I like the idea of being able to sit down with a pad to take notes. After considering a parallelogram mount I think there's merit to the sky window system.
I might source a front surface mirror from www.scientificmirrors.co.uk/Autocue-FSmirrors.html and have a bash at building something over the next few weeks.
All the best,
John

I have one John. When we meet up at Christmas you can have it. I wasn't mad about the optical quality to be honest.

Interesting piece of kit... daft-looking, but interesting.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

There's a Belgan chap by the name of Rony on Cloudynights who reproduces his binocular sketches using a Trico Machine Sky Window , see here:

I would imagine that it's very comfortable on the neck. I have a parallelogram mount and looking at the zenith produces neck strain after a time. Lying down it's a pleasure though.
