Shed storage was created by StephenK
Right, here is my problem..

I cant keep my scopes set up in the house cos they are too big. So i would like to store them in a shed out the back garden, but??

Wooden, or steel - and do I need to worry about dampness. Please advise me which type is best,

Cheers,

Hi Stephen, I have both a wooden shed and a steel shed in my garden. I would consider putting my scopes into the wooden garden shed except it's used as a store for garden equipment and is pretty full. The steel shed is a definate no because it "sweats" in the winter (the roof panels practically drip). I have noticed that anything presently stored in there is damp or rusty - this despite it having reaonable ventilation. I considered lining it internally with Kingspan type sheet insulation or even keeping a low level heat source in there, particularly in the winter.

My biggest concern is humitity - followed by security worries. I suppose an advantage of solving the above would be the reduction in cool down time for the Dobson. Of course some members use sheds as obseratories and will have different experiences of both steel sheeted and timber clad sheds

If you want a little inspiration on knocking up a 'custom' shed then take a brows through the following page of links...

PS - Humidity and sweating walls/roofs can be dealt with (up to a point!) using a domestic dehumidifier. You can pick up a small unit (suitable for a 2 - 3 room apartment from Power City for under €150 www.powercity.ie/?par=40-55 . You can also get beefier ones that will also control the temperature as well as the humidity.

Hello Stephen,

Wooden shed all the way Stephen. For the 8 months of Winter, my steel shed is a dew nightmare.
