Best sites to from the US? was created by eclipsedan
Hey guys,
I'm shipping around the US for big scopes but I want reasonable shipping. For instance, BHPhoto want close to $1000 for shipping a celestron CPC 1100. Anyone know of a more reasonable supplier?
Thanks!

Hi
If you are buying celestron you will probably have to get it from the AI shop. Celestron have their dealers territories pretty well sown up. I am surprised a US firm even quoted you. With the strong dollar and weak pound it might be worth looking in the UK or NI-with the shipping cost it may not be a big difference in price and the warranty will be valid (this is important-I know this from first hand experience with a celestron telescope). A few place to try are
Telescope Service (Germany)
Telescope house (not sure if they do celestron)
Astronomy Ireland shop
North down telescopes
Ian King Imaging, greenwitch and a few others

Don't forget those nasty import duties and taxes that can add an additional 25% to the overall cost. These taxes are added to the cost of the scope, and to the cost of shipping, a double whammy.
Check out the prices in the EU, no import taxes, you might find that you could save more than you think.

After a long night of searching, I think you're both right. It doesn't look like it's cost effective to go the way of the US... I'll keep searching UK and Europe.
