Hey
Took at a look at the cost of shipping the gear train
for the Atlas EQ6 which comes in at about 2.4kg and shipping UPS
is about 100euro each way. The shipping cost is unfortunately
a bit prohibitive which is unfortunate as the upgrade itself is relatively cheap at 100euros!!
I was wondering if anyone felt that they would like to attempt
this upgrade with their mount and if so it might would be worth sharing the shipping.
5Kg on UPS is 140euro each way.

There maybe other places to have this done - there is one possible UK site that I just found. I haven't scrutinised their webpage but looks like it might be worth delving a little further.
See www.ws2.co.uk/eng2.htm
At the moment I wouldn't feel the risk is worth it - until I saw more positive feedback. Also - *I* am the weakest link in my setup! Until I hone my own skills further I wouldn't notice the difference.

Hey Mark
Had a look at the website, look like they apply the process to different areas, its quite possible that they would apply it to astronomy mounts.
Talking of weakest link, i definitely wouldn't be the strongest. I am taking the approach that i built some quality into the system literally from the ground up, starting with the mount pier. I would hope that by the time i am finished, i will have worked out any of the typical problems found in the Atlas EQ6 also, and that i am the only weak link in the system hopefully then i can hone my skills.
I am definitely limited budget wise so applying the proper upgrades has been a large part of this project.
Can't wait for the first picture though : cheer:
I have been told recently that i should be able to ship both ways for a lot cheaper, just checking this out now. Will let you know how it goes.
