Newtonian OTA was created by alnilam
Im wondering if anyone has any ideas or tips on this.
I have a 6 inch newtonian reflector tube sitting gathering dust. Its a beautiful instrument and a shame its not being used. It used to have its own German Equatorial Mount but long past it's sell by date.
I was hoping to configure the tube into a dobsonian mount. I would rather not go for another EQ mount and have the whole assembly much more portable
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

Building a dob mount is a very straightworward process to anyone with the most basic of handtool skills. A google search will throw up oodles of plans.
Good luck with it.
Good luck with it.

Oh Yeah and the tips. Use good quality ply (marine grade is best but probably overkill) don't use the really cheap stuff which will fall apart at the first sign of a bit of dew. In anycase seal the finished item with clear varnish to stop it soaking up moisture. ......and of course remember the most important rule, 'measure twice and cut once!'

Totally agree with Dave on this one for dobsonian type mounts, good quality plywood is the best to use due to its strengths and lack of shrinking and expanding plus I think its a nice looking wood to use, as to design wise theirs so many out there. Its possible to created one yourself but it needs to be practical and one that will suit your scope of choice. Just one look at google image and you will have loads of ideas. Best of luck Jon
