CF Card missing memory?

Hi All,

Am having a bit of trouble with a compact flash card, Its a 16gb and I just got it a few weeks ago.

I took a few thousand pics with it pretty much filling it up, went to the computer to transfer the lot, no problems there.

I then put the card back empty and its only showing that I have 7.8gb empty!

I tried formating the card from camera (Rebel XT) and through the card reader on the computer and it still coming up about 8gb short!

I sent an email to conns cameras where I got it and they said bring it in and the will change it, all good but dont really fancy a trip in there, will probably end up buying something!!

Any ideas how to restore the card to its max capicity that it once was?

Try formatting it with a PC, after that there are 2 possibilities here Graham,
Its damaged internally, get rid of it asap.
It was never a 16 gig card (not as crazy as it might at first sound, there are alot of scams like that on ebay), again ring the shop and arrange an exchange by post maybe if you dont want to go in there.
That card cant be trusted. If it shows any signs of trouble you're always going to be wondering when its going to fail next causing you to loose pics.
