I was in Maplins the other day when I saw a pile of heated gloves for sale. They run on 3AA batteries. They are meant to reach 40C. Could be good for the frigid nights ahead.

Yea, I saw those John, contemplated getting them and the heated hat and soles for the shoes, but all the messing with batteries put me off.
I use gloves as it is but I cut off the top of the fingers so I could manipulate maps/eyepieces, dont know if I could do that with these gloves..., probabily not.

Don't know about the hat or gloves but there was a review of the Maplin heated soles over on the UK Stargazerlounge and the concensus was. Avoid. Absolutely useless apparently.

I have the hat.
It's good for 2 hours on two fresh battery's.
It's really just a 'wait until your really cold and then
switch it on' kind of deal.
I used it for the meteor shower last and it worked a treat.
the biggest issue as Dave points out is that one item
might be ok but if you had all three then there would be constant
messing around with battery's and that's just irritating.
I got a pressie of 'Hotties' a while back and they work brilliantly!
they are a gel like substance in a plastic pouch that heat up
when you break a metal disk inside - resuable - they really help
'defrost' your fingers.
I've even put them into my socks and gloves.
I'd recommend buying 4 of them!

You simply pop them in boiling water to recharge.
No battery's needed!

Hey Guys, not only the gloves are there, also sometimes they stock a geated vest also, at €33 it's a bargain, it's basically a fleece jacket without the arms, it takes 6 AA batteries and lasts about 1.5 hrs, graet heat, but again, i'll only use it for when it really gets cold.
If you see one i'd recommend it.
Keith.

I was out tonight for the lunar eclipse and had seen it and taken some pictures
and pointed the scope to mars which was just under the horizon, so i left the scope
on it because it would have been up in 20 minutes or so, so I was walking around trying
to keep warm and I thought of this thread with the heated soles and gloves, o if only I
had them, but anyway I froze it out and mars came up, for all of 10 seconds and a huge
cloud came in and thet was that,: angry:
