Well spotted Graham. I didn't release these hex screws when I did my first adjustment. Lots of grinding metal. A serious oversight by Celestron for something so crucial. I'm sure a few mounts were returned when the altitude screws were ruined by not releasing the hex screws. Nothing in the manual: angry: .

Hi Lads,
The reason it's not in the manual is because it's not the nut you loosen. For Altitude adjustment you must loosen the big nut at the center of the image hope this helps.

If you loosen the nut in the middle you end up at least with broken toes!
as soon as the tension screws were loosened it moved perfectly, I could see in the holes where the paint was scratched from my earlier attempts!
Am sure there is prob more different versions of mount!

That is strange I suppose I had the first CGE in the country. Dave Grennan got one a few months after me and there was differences between the two mounts.
