Solar Filter Position was created by Graham
Hi All,

I was just wondering about solar filters, should they be fitted to the scope with or without the dew shield?

Graham --

Shouldn't make any difference for a white-light (mylar or glass) filter. Put it wherever it fits most snugly.

For interference filters, tilting them changes the bandwidth. So it's better if a h-alpha filter gets attached either to a fixed (ie: non-sliding) dew shield or directly to the lens-cell.

BTW, however you attach it, make sure it can't fall off. Also, make sure you've got something to cover the finderscope.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info Jeff!

The smaller the cheaper so will prob measure without the dew shield :P, I was going to just stick some of the sheet filter stuff on the finder scope.

Thanks again,

Graham
