I'd recomend you get the replacement Alt bolts - I could not adjust my altitude with the supplied bolts -even without load.
I can now adjust without struggling even with full load.

Hey Mark
I've already buckled one and replaced it with a standard bolt
which requires a wrench to turn it :silly: . Also like you said they are have always been tight to turn even without a load, could never understand this. On top of all that they have bedded in to the plate that they tighten against. Will take your advice and get the new set.
On another note have you ever noticed that the altitude axis can move even after tightening the bolts? The last time i was tuning the altitude i really had to bury the adjustment bolts home to get the play out of the axis? I planned to remove the cover plates and observe this play and see if i could take it out of it?
Thanks
Mike

Can't say I've noticed this play but I need to get more use / experience of the mount (I'm now thinking of a permanent setup as the hassle of setup is discouraging me from getting out and observing).
A mount-specific discussion group that might interest you is
tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EQ6/
Also (just in case you're not aware of EQMOD - which I'm really happy with):
tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EQMOD/
And (for accurate telescope pointing - got it - plate solved a test image - haven't used it in earnest):

You wont regret the replacment Alt bolts...

Hey Mark
I haven't got the bolts yet (budget constraints!!!), in fact it was only last night while trying to drift align that i wish i had got them . But in relation to permanent setup can't beat it. I have already spent more time on the scope this year then i did for the entire of last year. Each time i go out i make some progress and really learning stuff.
Anyhow just in case you needed some convincing!!!
