Hi All,
Anyone shipping a scope from the US might want to have a look at this

www.overacker.com/upssucks.htm

I would think twice about using UPS, more like OOPS

Yes, like the E37 added to my laser!

Still, great fun sweeping it across the bay and over the mountains.... errr... I mean pointing at objects on the rich tapestry that is The Milky Way.

Yes, thats what I used. I recommend it. Value for money. And it gives you much more assurance that your scope is really in tip top form when it arrives. Other then a stock scope. Then you just have a lot from the lottery.
The UPS troubles have been itterated in the LX200 board for some time now. They are not really suitabel for this. I'd place my bets on Emery.
I have been dealing with them profesionaly. They are accountable.

Have fun!

A lot of the carriers are great once your stuff arrives and is OK.

We've used UPS a few times and their corporate gobbildygook is annoying. The expedited service (I think that's what they used to call it) is the slow one. How'd they think that one up :?

The real test of a carrier though is how they deal with you when problems arise. I've found Fedex good even though they are expensive.

In some of the larger companies there is a policy of immediate denial in the hope that a percentage of the genuine people will drop off and avoid the hassle.

The one to avoid though is the USPS. You get a tracking number (one each for 7 or 8 telescopes) until they arrive in Germany a number of weeks later.

Then they just disappear because the numbering system changes and nobody knows where they are for another couple of weeks.

wally,
i think there is a form on their website that if you fill it in they give you a code for a company called gls. that is who delievers usps stuff in europe. had a parcel sort of disappear once that was supposed to be delievered by them. they send out letters asking if you want to accept any customs charges by post from germany for some reason mine went missing. i rang them up with the correct code and the parcel had been sitting in a warehouse in blanch for a week.
