only 75!, you'd be part of a small unique club there,
Is getting spares a problem for this mount ?

Hi Dave,

That is a very good point and would be a major concern Frank

I have been using the GT1100S for 9 years. I have had no problems yet. However, I would agree with you if
there was major mechanical fault would there be spares. I have no idea! I suppose it depends on the
specific part which may need to replaceable by using may be existing ME parts, as this mount has identical design features. Or they may be have the parts anticipating this possibility. Until the breakdown I'll keep the mounting going.

May be somebody on Cloudy Nights knows the answer.

Well, I think I'll take a direct route and email the manufacturers
with these questions.
Out of production or not, any good company should have some
back up plan regarding future parts or service issues.
I'm also now thinking that indeed I may not be interested in DS
photography now but I'll never say never and I think pushing the boat
out now may save me time effort and money in the future.

I was hoping to get out of this (mount and C14) for not
more than 10k.

Yea, their backup plan is for you to upgrade to their ME mount I'd bet.
I got cought out 2 years ago when my lx200 mount passed away and I had to take the OTA off it and put it on a new fork as parts for the older mounts were no where to be found.
Atleast now, if the new mounts self destructs, I can get new electronics for it,
although you really cant compare Meade with Paramount.
Have you looked at the ap1200gto ?

For 10K, how about a C14, a G11 or CGE and a decent motorised Dob for the long trips. Orion have a new 14" motorised truss tube dob I believe
