Hi.
Thanks for your input. It is indeed strange that it slew down, can be controlled, although sounding abnormal but is dead when you slew up. I am told.that this is a sign of a blown misfit tramsister in the motor controller. It also gives a motor unit fault on the autostar.
It just happened suddenly when.I was setting up. There was no slow degrading of performance. I have reinstated the firmware on case it is some sort of firmware corruption. Checked all the cables for wear and even swapped for a new cable.
I thought about the planetarium software idea but that would entail going through the autostar also. There is no dedicated autoguide port.
I've swapped the top button with the down button in the autostar on case the buttons are faulty.
Can't thinly.of anything else.

You've been pretty thorough.
I wish I could suggest more - but that's about my limit.
Very best of luck.

Here's a thing though. The celestrom power tank is supposed to give out 12v but I just checked it with a millimeter and it gives out 13v . The other powertank I have is a Halford which gives out 12v but don't usually use it to run the scope. So would that extra 1v over time be enough to blow the scope after a while. Bearing in
mind I have used this powertank for almost 3 years.

Sounds like you have tried everything.
I doubt the 13V from the celestron power tank is the issue.
Telescope House are the ones to talk to.
They are the service department for Meade in Europe.
They can repair most issues.
I would suggest sending them an e-mail.
Michael.

I concurr - an extra 1V shouldn't be an issue - I drive all my equipment off a 13.8 V DC regulated power supply.

Hi All
Scope is now repaired. :woohoo:
Special thanks to John Murphy the chip jockey...u da man. And special thanks to Andy McCray for prevailing on BC&F to send me a replacement DEC PCB board.
Now just waiting on a clear sky to get out and set up again.
