Thanks for the all the replys, you guys are great:)
I am not 100% which type of telescope it is. I didnt see it. It was my Dad that asked me about it. He saw it in a shop and they were selling it for 200 euro but the guy in the shop said they normally sell for 600 euro. One of those liquidation shops I think.
All I know is that he said he got numbers from it of 130mm D and 900 mm F - I'm assuming thats the diameter and focal length?
I have a Meade scope myself, which I am trying when I have time to get used to using but alas time and clouds get in my way!

I'd take the 600 quote with a very large pinch of salt to be honest. 200 seems a lot for a 130mm refractor (is a refractor?) in a "liquidation" sale. My experience of such sales is that that is what they are not. Its usually someone just getting rid of a lot of dross most people wouldn;t buy ordinarily. Slap "liquidations sale" onto it and it gives some kind of psychological credence to the prices they are charging - which are about the normal price tbh.
judging bu other folks experience of Atlas - they are what they are - a *budget* scope. Not to be sniffed at especially for a newbie figuring out if astronomy is their cup of tea or not. But another thing you might suggest to your Dad is for him to find his nearest club and go along to the next meeting. Contact them beforehand and they would probably try and organise for a few telescopes or binoculars to be brought in for him to have a look at.
In general though, do not let him buy a telescope before he's done his research )or you've done it for him!) and we've given you the green light:) All the folks here hate to see rip-offs and we'll do what we can to help. Well, other than get rid of the clouds for you
