Hi
Looks like i need to purchase a coma-corrector for my f4.8 scope.
So far i have worked out that i need to get the Televue PLU-1106, this appears to be only designed for photography??? Also this has numerous adapters for different cameras. Unfortunately i don't see one for the philips webcam (essentially a 1 1/4" adapter). Also given the expense of these, is there really a difference between visual and photography correctors, i would prefer to purchase one for all uses.
For example can i do the following, the basic setup i would like is
scope---4xpowermate----PLU-1106----adapter to 1 1/4"
(webcam or 1 1/4" eyepiece)
or
scope----4xpowermate----PLU-1106----350D T-ring
Canon350D
but would also like
scope----PLU-1106----adapter to 1 1/4"
(webcam or 1 1/4" eyepiece)
and
scope----4xpowermate----PLU-1106----350D T-ring
Canon350D
I do plan to upgrade my eyepiece set to 2" eyepieces at a later date.
What makes the PLU-1106 specific to imaging, is it just a case of accessories?
Is the VIP-2010 (Paracorr Type 2) more suited to my requirements?
Also should i be adding field flatteners to my list of requirements?
Anyone know of lower cost coma correctors that would be decent alternatives to Televues range?
Thanks again for any suggestions!!
Mike

Hi Mike,
I have an f/5 reflector and use a Baader multi purpose coma corrector (MPCC), which I'm extremely pleased with. It gives nice round stars almost to the edge of the field with my dslr camera, whereas coma is very pronounced when it is not used. The correction at the edges is not perfect, but it is more than adequate for my needs. As long as you have the adapters/extenders that give the right spacing to the sensor (as specified in the Baader literature), it works extremely well. Many others, including much more experienced imagers than me, have given the MPCC good reviews. At about half the price of the Televue Paracorr, it is worth thinking about.
As far as I know, field flatteners are not required with reflectors.

Thanks Mike
Just ordered the MPCC.
For CCD imaging with a Philips Toucam will an MPCC improve the image? Given that the "coma free field" is somewhere around the same size as the CCD for an f4.8 scope at the center FOV then I expect it wont really make a difference. However with a 4x powermate does this amplify the coma that is present in this so called "coma free field"? I also figure given the lack of adapters for MPCC to philips toucam that it wont improve the image!!!!!
Cheers
