Hi Paul,
Ive repaired burnt out tracks on a lx90 board many years ago, and replacing caps is quite easy.
Before you put the 8 amp fuse in there, in what way was the 2amp fuse blowing, was immediately after power on or after a few mins, during slewing?, ?

Immediately the power switch was pushed Dave.

It happened when connected to either the power tank or the mains.

ok so, as was said above, you might have had a simple short like somewhere on the board touching the metal frame/body of the mount. If you can repair the damaged caused by the wrong fuse, you have a real chance of fixing the initial problem.

Hi Paul, you're having a terrible run of bad luck recently - it must be heartbreaking.

I wonder if a computer repair shop might be able to advise. Small local computer repair outfits might be able to do "routine" pcb repairs. Also, I know an electronics technician and am try to contact him to ask for advice based on the information on the forum. I'll get back to you if he can help.

Good luck with this,
Mike

Many thanks for that Mike.

It's heartening to see the level assistance that the community are willing to offer.

I don't think that it is a pcb problem, just a blown capacitor, hopefully it's something that simple.

Would a comouter repair shop look at a DEC motor unit?

Hi Paul, My electronic technician friend is happy to take a look at your system and, if feasible, to repair it. I'll phone you this evening to see if you're interested and to make arrangements.
