First scope with other eye on future photos was created by RandomPillars
Hey all,
Looking for a piece of advice. New to astronomy and am going to invest in my first scope. Already have two good pairs of binoculars (10x50 & 20x70)
I want to get a decent dobsonian. Between 8" and 12". Probably Skywatcher. Anyway, what I'd like to know from people in the know is - if I get this kind of scope on the dob mount as planned, can I, in the future, upgrade the mount to an EQ mount if I want to get into astrophotography? I'd like to hopefully keep the OTA. Is this possible?
Many thanks for any help.
Sean

Hi RandomPillars,
well i don't think it would be very practical due to the size/weight of the OTA...as for example NEQ6 would hold around 15kg payload for astrophotography,SkyWatcher 8" tube weights 11kg alone, and i am not talking about the fun of balancing the fella.
I know there are tracking platforms for dobs
www.equatorial-platforms-uk.co.uk/
but i would say they are rather expensive...

Great. Thanks Nerro.
I should probably buy the dob as planned anyway and then bite the bullet with a completely new scope if I want to take photos.
Appreciate the help

Hi Frank,
Was thinking of just dso's. Don't think I want to do planets. I know I'll need to take pics of galaxies and nebulae if I really want to know what I'm looking at. I hear through sight alone, that faint fuzzies are just less faint! I'd like to take pics to see spirals or rings (and hopefully the horse head neb, if at all possible)

If thats the case the you should really think
'mount first'
The logic being once you have a decent eq mount
with good tracking you can always in the
future add Ota's and use whichever one you like.
The Dob is really for visual only.
