Interesting new mount? was created by martinus
I stumbled on to a description of the Mesu-Mount 2 when I was researching the iOptron IEQ45. One hundred kilos of hardware on a 4,550 euro mount with a PE of 5 arc-seconds peak-to-peak seems too good to be true. Descriptions of the mount elsewhere suggest that the designer is renowned for minimalist 'it just works' approach.

Uses a friction drive instead of a worm/gear approach which is interesting.

Food for thought?

So far I have noted a few short discussion about it:

stargazerslounge.com/imaging-discussion/...-new-mesu-mount.html
stargazerslounge.com/discussions-mounts/...more-mesu-mount.html

There are other bits and pieces but the general trend is positive (if pragmatically sceptical).

Doing a bit more research today on the various drive systems of mounts and stumbled onto this:

Worth a read, especially for the engineering geeks amongst us. :)
