SCT Crayford focuser was created by johnomahony
I finally bit the bullet and got a Crayford focuser for my C11 to help with mainly planetary imaging. I picked up a William Optics focuser which was on sale. It looks like a nice bit of kit with a lovely blue anodising. I was temped by the feather touch or moonlite focusers but the WO was a bargain. Does anyone use one of these for deep sky imaging? I am wondering how it would hold up to a CCD camera. It is rated to hold 5 lbs and it does seem pretty slip resistant with a smooth action.

I’ll put it this way; it will make your life much easier focusing.

I am mounting my Nikon D5000 on my focuser and don't have any problems...I would imagine your ccd should be lighter so don't see any reason why you can't.

That will help bigtime.
Does it have 1:10 reduction knob?

The focuser has a 10:1 reducer which is really essential. I was tempted to get the WO Crayford that had the rack and pinion setup but it was getting close to a new feathertouch focuser for the price.
I used it on my 8" sct expecting it to be back heavy with the LX10 forks but it was surprisingly stable. Makes a huge difference focusing- should have done this years ago. :)

I went the route of a Starlight Microfocuser, which I find really good and in my estimation has improved my CPC9.25 by a good 20%. I also use a D600 eos for astrphotography, but that's another story as I have had little or no scope time due to our lovely weather.
